Rituals: Heritage, Lived

France, One Gesture at a Time

There is the heritage of monuments: the kind admired from behind velvet ropes, etched in stone and recorded in history.

And then there is the heritage that is lived.

A recipe whispered from one generation to the next. An expression that brings a smile. A custom discovered by chance. A landscape, a story, a thoughtful gesture shared with another.

A heritage enriched by everything that cannot be packed away or captured in a photograph.

At Esprit de France, heritage reveals itself through rituals that bring it vividly to life.

Sleeping at the Heart of France's Finest Addresses

Everything begins with a key.

In Paris, it unlocks elegant houses overlooking the Tuileries Gardens, just moments from the Louvre, the Champs-Élysées and Place Vendôme. In Provence, it opens onto Cézanne's beloved Sainte-Victoire mountain. In Lens, the Louvre-Lens Museum has long been a neighbour.

Here, you don't simply stay beside France's heritage. You live with it.

Each hotel tells its own singular story through its materials, proportions, artworks, furnishings and craftsmanship—all just steps from the country's greatest treasures. A quiet narrative of remarkable beauty. The moment you cross the threshold, the address feels unmistakably right.

Champagne to Say Hello

At our Parisian hotels - and on weekends in Lens - a glass of Champagne awaits on arrival.

Because here, celebrating is almost second nature.

Legend has it that when Dom Pérignon first tasted sparkling wine, he exclaimed: "Come quickly, I am tasting the stars."

Within our walls, heritage is something to savour.

A King's Afternoon Tea

For centuries, le goûter has been woven into the rhythm of French life. By the nineteenth century, it had earned its place in elegant drawing rooms, where hot drinks were served alongside carefully chosen pastries.

In Paris, afternoons are still enjoyed in much the same way, over complimentary coffee or tea accompanied by a sweet treat from the house. For those with a sweeter tooth, a rich hot chocolate inspired by Louis XV's own recipe completes the moment. Several centuries, gently melting beneath a spoon.

In Lens, the ritual takes another form.
Guests are invited to enjoy a complimentary cup of chicory coffee. Popularised in the early nineteenth century during the Continental Blockade, this naturally caffeine-free infusion has become one of Northern France's most enduring traditions, still accompanying its warmest moments of pause today.

The Art of Care

The journey continues in the bathroom, where every gesture, every texture and every ritual draws inspiration from the French art of wellbeing - an approach shaped by craftsmanship, beautiful materials and meticulous attention to detail.

At Hôtel des Saints-Pères and Hôtel d'Orsay, a fragrance counter introduces guests to Carrière Frères solid soaps. Handmade in south-western France using ancestral techniques, cold-process crafted, organic-certified and vegan, they extend the experience into life's simplest rituals.

At Le Pigonnet, the house has created its own signature soap alongside Sonia Godet, the perfumer behind Folie d'Aix.

Everything here speaks of softness, balance and quiet restoration. Time no longer rushes. It lingers.

The Poetry of Night

Each evening, a poem awaits on your pillow.

Written exclusively by a French poet and inspired by the spirit of our houses, each one invites the soul of the place to follow you into your dreams.

Some people count sheep.

Here, you fall asleep with poetry.

France, Passed from One Voice to Another

Our teams know their city the way one knows an old friend.

The bakery worth the detour.
The museum best visited before the crowds arrive.
The secluded bench where the light changes most beautifully.

The forgotten historical detail that turns an ordinary stroll into a lasting memory.

When you arrive at one of our Parisian hotels, this local knowledge is also shared through a guidebook prepared especially for our guests.

This, too, is our idea of heritage: carefully kept secrets, entrusted to those we hope to welcome back.

Leaving with More Than Your Luggage

When it is time to leave, France does not entirely leave with you. A playlist. A podcast. A book recommendation. An address slipped discreetly into your pocket.

Small keepsakes that allow the journey to linger a little longer. Then everyone returns to their own path, while the finest things remain: a newly discovered flavour, a few lines of poetry remembered by heart, a new ritual, a different way of looking at a landscape or at the people who call it home.

Because a memorable stay is never defined solely by what you have seen. It is revealed in what you have felt, understood and chosen to carry with you. Long after your return, it leaves behind that quiet yet enduring feeling of having experienced something truly precious.
