Château de Saint Paterne
boutique château-hotel - Sarthe, Normandie

A historic landmark with the charm of a family home

Imagine a residence where the stones themselves could tell tales of Henry IV’s secret romances, and where every room opens a new chapter of history. At Château de Saint Paterne, the journey takes you through different eras and faraway lands, in interiors thoughtfully curated by Charles-Henry and Ségolène de Valbray.

Here, Renaissance elegance meets 18th-century charm, while subtle contemporary touches blend seamlessly into the lounges and bedrooms. Nothing feels frozen in time: each space has its own personality, each object its own story.

The 11 bedrooms each tell a story of their own, through antique furniture, beautiful fabrics and distinctive details.

Outside, the 10-hectare estate invites you to slow down. Wander beneath the trees, linger by the swimming pool or jacuzzi, or unwind in the sauna. At Saint Paterne, tranquillity is a family affair. The atmosphere is that of a grand country home, with the comforting feeling of being welcomed as one of the family.

As evening falls, the dining experience carries this warm atmosphere into the night. In the kitchen, seasonal ingredients inspire dishes that are sometimes traditional, sometimes creatively reimagined, blending local flavours with influences from further afield. Generous, inspired cuisine, personally prepared by Charles-Henry and served by candlelight every evening.

You may come to sleep in a château, but above all, you come to experience its unique atmosphere. To slow down, to be surprised by a room, a garden, a dish or a story… and to leave feeling that, for a few days, you truly belonged to the house.
