The best new pâtisseries
There is nothing quite like something sweet for a comforting break or to wind up a wonderful meal! There are tons of excellent patisseries and tea rooms in Paris, many of which were set up by award-winning chefs. Our pick of the best new places to try out:
Cédric Grolet, near l’Opéra
Cédric Grolet (awarded "best pastry chef in the world" in 2018) recently opened a patisserie on Avenue de l’Opéra, in the 2nd arrondissement, not far from the hôtel Mansart. Inside the modern settings, pastry chefs are hard at work making the most mouthwatering creations live: fruit tarts, Saint-Honoré, Paris-Brest, Viennese pâtisseries, as well as the famous "nut" trompe l’œil chocolate dessert in the shape of a little nut shell, which has become Cédric's signature. There is a tea room upstairs for those who wish to soak up the cheerful, casual ambiance while enjoying one of his gourmet creations.
Kubo, an original olfactive and gourmet experience
Hélène Deguen opened a new type of patisserie in November last year in the 10th arrondissement. The young woman who decided to combine flavours with scents has a passion for patisseries and perfumes backed by expertise in both fields (she is a qualifed pastry chef with 7 years experience in the perfume and cosmetic industry). The scented creations are covered for customers to guess what the flavours are! After the little game, Kubo invites you to choose your favourite flavours and picks out the corresponding patisseries and biscuits : light French almond meringues, violet flavoured marshmellow teddy bears ... the surprising combinations are truely remarkable !
Philippe Conticini, a new bakery & cake store in Passy
After releasing his "Pâtisserie des rêves" book, the famous pastry chef who is now recognised as one of the major players in French and international gastronomy, opened the Gâteaux d'émotions end 2019 in rue de l'Annonciation in the 16th arrondissement. The delicious offering encompasses an appetizing reinterpretation of the main classics, such as the vanilla or chocolate flan, raspberry tart or peach baba. Plus a range of regional breads to try: baguette de Limagne, olive oil brioche or the Margeride rye pie to name just a few … take a seat at one of the little bistro tables to take you time and enjoy the experience.
