Staying near Quartier Latin

Quartier Latin, a neighborhood of letters

Nestled in the heart of Paris, between the 5th arrondissement and the northern and eastern parts of the 6th, the Latin Quarter stands as an emblematic jewel of the capital, renowned for its architectural treasures and its world-renowned university, the Sorbonne.

Against all expectations, the name "Latin Quarter" does not have its origins in ancient Rome, but was forged in the 17th century, as a result of a derisive name towards the scholars who populated this neighborhood and who had a particular affection for the exclusive practice of Latin. Nestled on the Left Bank of Paris, this place was indeed the meeting point of many intellectuals and artists who taught only in this classical language.

The Latin Quarter seduces with its illustrious monuments such as the majestic Pantheon, the Luxembourg Palace, the Arab World Institute, or the Natural History Museum. Today, it continues to attract a large number of students, housing no less than 20 renowned educational institutions, as well as a multitude of bookstores specializing in a wide range of academic research fields. It remains a haven of life, allowing passers-by to enjoy fresh produce at the covered market of Saint-Germain or to enjoy a lush green interlude in the Jardin des Plantes.
