Serenity and history: the charm of a thousand-year-old château

Hidden away in the heart of the prestigious “golden triangle” of the Loire Valley’s former royal residences, Château des Grotteaux emerges serene and majestic, inviting you to relax amid nature’s bounty.

This 17th-century residence, built in 1620 by Guillaume Ribier, a state councillor and art enthusiast, is more than just somewhere to stay. It’s a place where the soul is restored to the soothing sounds of the Cosson, the river running alongside the château, of the birdsong and the gentle murmur of age-old trees. The interiors, which boast wall paintings by French artist Jean Mosnier, exude a distinct harmony.

In the shade of the 82-acre grounds, you can let your mind wander, stroll, or simply marvel at nature stretching as far as the eye can see. Before you leave, take a break under the oak trees, relax by the turquoise pool, or work up a sweat on the tennis court.

Come and relax in the evening in one of the château’s five tastefully renovated bedrooms, soaking up the authentic, warm, and harmonious atmosphere. The original inspiration for each room is an object, a painting, or a fabric. The result is remarkable. As Baudelaire once said, “the soul bathes lazily here.” You’ll never want to leave.

Nearby, the land of châteaux awaits, with Chambord, Cheverny, and Blois all within cycling distance. The Château des Grotteaux is a place where life slows down, where the soul is replenished, and where you can reconnect with what’s matters most.
