From March 25th to July 24th 2011

From the 25th of March, the Bourdelle Museum houses the first external exhibition for the Fashion Museum, which is currently closed for alterations. This is the first Parisian retrospective dedicated to Madame Grès (1903-1993), a fashion designer recognized as a genius of the profession.

Her specialty? Drapes. Madame Grès’ dream was to be a sculptor, and she sculpted fabric during her 50 year long career. That is how the 80 pieces of the exhibition let you travel from the antic Greece with drape clothes to minimalism of which she was a precursor in fashion. Around 50 original photographs and 100 sketches for the Grès fashion house complete the exhibition of models.

Madame Grès did not care about passing fashion and trends that marked only one season. She preferred sculpting unique pieces. A masterpiece from Madame Grès is recognizable by its purity; it looks simple but hides the extreme complexity of her know-how. The one that dreamt of seamless clothes saved on lines and volume for a timeless result… changing women’s body into goddess.
