Quimper, « ville d'Art et d'Histoire »

Le Château de Guilguiffin

Owing to the quality of its architectural heritage, Quimper is listed “Ville d'art et d'histoire ». During the 13th century, the choice of Quimper as the see of the Bishop, favours the development of the town, already the residence of the powerful Count of Cornouaille. The belt of ramparts and the cathedral Saint-Corentin, one of the major Gothic constructions in Brittany, structure the city. In the historical center of this capital of Cornouaille bishops, one can stroll along the paved streets lined with half-timbered or corbelled houses. One can also follow the banks of the river Odet, considered as “the most beautiful river of France”, and discover on the way to Bénodet, an exceptional wealth of landscapes and architecture.
