L'abbaye aux Dames, at Saintes

Founded in 1047, this abbey was the first convent in the Saintes area. In the 17th century, two fires destroyed part of it. Completely restored, the abbey is today a major cultural centre welcoming exhibitions and the "Festival des Academies musicales". Abbayes aux Dames Saintes Tel. Cities nearby the Chateau de Crazannes - Rochefort (35km-22miles), artistic and historical city of the 17th century with a royal and maritime background also known for its spas - Royan (40km-25miles), an attractive sea side resort on the Atlantic "Coast of Beauty".
