The Hôtel de Beaumont in Valognes
Valognes, like Bayeux, is a magnificent small Norman city bursting with architectural marvels. Valognes merits its surname of the "Norman Versailles" in spite of the destruction of its town centre during the battle of Normandy in June 1944. The Hotel de Beaumont is an elegant private mansion of the 18th century, magnificently preserved and furnished. It is open to visits from July 1st to September 15th and all week-ends of the year ; it is unquestionably worth the detour. (For guests of the Chateau de Canisy, possibility of private visits, all year round). Within easy reach of Canisy, here are some famous places : - the Mont Saint-Michel - historic chateaux and gardens : Saint-Sauveur le Vicomte, Balleroy, Vauville, Tocqueville - fishing ports : Barfleur, Saint Vaast la Hougue, Carteret, Portbail, Port en Bessin, World War II landing sites - museums : Peace Memorial in Caen, War museum - Bayeux Tapestry - Cathedrals of Coutances and Bayeux and many abbeys - and by boat : Jersey, Guernsey, Chausey.

LE CHÂTEAU DE LA BARRE
In the Loire region, not far from Vendôme and in the midst of the wooded hills of the Perche, the Château de la Barre was witness to the Hundred Years War.
On the estate fortified during the 16th and 17th centuries, the castle was extended and embellished over the years. The successive refurbishments have given authenticity and nobility to the residence.
Surrounded by a vast parkland, handed on for centuries from father to son, the castle revives today an art of living that an 18th century gentleman would admire.
This preserved setting, strewn with works of art, superb fabrics and fine antics, does not compromise on contemporary comfort; and one can share the exquisite family dinner in the impressive dining room.
