In Verdun, this Center is a place of history and of memory, located in the episcopal palace, and listed historical monument. It was drawn at the beginning of the 18th century by Robert de Cotte, first architect of Louis XV. Saint-Simon quoted it in his memories like “the vastest and most splendid episcopal palace that there is in France”. When the bishop of Verdun yielded it in 1990 to the city, today world capital of peace, the palace was symbolically selected to be the seat of the World Center of peace, individual liberties and human rights. A permanent exposure invites the visitor to think about topics like the universal Declaration of the Human rights, UNO and Europe through the centuries. The exposure “14-18: Imaginary and Realities” makes it possible to live again, in an original scenography, the first world war lived by the “hairy ones”, poignant testimony and lesson for peace.
