Le Château d'Hattonchâtel

In Verdun, this Center is a place of history and of memory, located in the episcopal palace, and listed historical monument.

It was drawn at the beginning of the 18th century by Robert de Cotte, first architect of Louis XV. Saint-Simon quoted it in his memories like “the vastest and most splendid episcopal palace in France”.

When the bishop of Verdun gave it back,in 1990, to the city - today world capital of peace - the palace was symbolically selected to be the seat of the World Center of peace, individual liberties and human rights.

A permanent exhibition invites the visitor to think about the universal Declaration of Human rights, UNO or Europe through the centuries.

The exhibition “14-18: Imaginary and Realities” makes it possible to live again, in an original scenography, the first world war lived by the “hairy ones”, poignant testimony and lesson for peace.
