The Château de Font-Vidal

Le Château de Sanse

Bought to John de la Tour at the end of the XVIIIth century and having passed through several generations, today the estate belongs to Jean-Dominique and Pascale Poncet. After his father André, Jean-Dominique changed many things about the production of the wine. For many years Château Font-Vidal wine was produced in a cooperative Winery. In 1990, Jean-Dominique created his own winery in order to produce his own wine. Marc Quertinier, has been Château Font-Vidal's oenologist from the very first day (he is one of the ten best oenologist of Bordeaux area), thanks to his help Château Font-Vidal rosé wines are fresh, fruity and vivid ; red wines are rich and fullbodied, elegant with fine firm tannins, fruity and round. Depending on the vintage, we have our special reserve "Saphyre" which is aged in oak barrels for a minimum of 12 months. Several plots have been restructured but above all château Font-Vidal remains as a vineyard planted at a density of 4500 vine-plants a hectare, with an average age of more than 40 years, which produces a superior quality grape. The planted grape varieties of 70% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc and 5% Malbec, offer the same base of flavour to its wines. The name of Bordeaux Wines is worldwide. But people have become confused because there are so many different "appellations" within Bordeaux area. There are, in the Bordeaux area many different areas of production. Château Font-Vidal is situated in the Entre-Deux-Mers region. On a plateau very well ventilated aand sunny, the quality of its clay and limestone soil make it an outstanding estate.
