Château de la Ballue

Château de la Ballue - boutique château-hotel - Île-et-Vilaine

Enchanted gardens between Brittany and Normandy

Topiary art and a passion for heritage are what drive Madame Mathiot-Mathon and her family at Château de la Ballue. In the heart of Britanny at its most authentic between Saint-Malo and Mont-Saint-Michel, the building is a vestige of 17th-century extravagance. Trimmed hedges form curious shapes as if nature were playing dress-up. Light and shadow dance to the rhythm of the sun, offering a baroque spectacle in every corner of greenery. A lush labyrinth inviting you to lose yourself – and find yourself again. Château de la Ballue offers its guests five rooms, each with a timeless touch. Whether the Victor Hugo Room, ideal for a honeymoon with its four-poster bed and period woodwork, the Florence Room, decorated with beautiful, stretched fabrics, or the Suite de France, offering exceptional views of the terraced gardens, every detail has been meticulously chosen to immerse you in refinement throughout your stay. After spending some time reading in one of three lounges, wander through this listed Historical Monument, take a dip in the 17-meter heated swimming pool designed by architect Paul Maymont, or alternatively relax in the exceptional Château Spa. History buffs will be happy to escape to the famous Mont-Saint-Michel at daybreak, before carrying on to Saint-Malo, Dinard, or Dol de Bretagne to marvel at its iconic Menhir. At Château de la Ballue, you’re in two places at once; part Brittany, part Normandy, and more than ever, at home.

Rooms & suites

The rooms at Château de Bonnemare invite you on a journey back through the centuries. It is said that Charles VII and Charles IX, two kings who loved hunting, laid their crowns here. Antique furniture and period finery pay tribute to Renaissance and Grand Siècle art de vivre. From the windows, you can enjoy breathtaking views of the château, the majestic poplar-lined avenue, and 54 acres of nature.
